What you can do, free of charge
Under our terms, senior-living communities, libraries and day programs may print the free edition and hand out as many copies as they need to residents or members, at no cost. We only ask that each copy stays unaltered, keeps the By Sunup name and web address, and isn’t sold.
- Each weekday morning, open today’s edition on our website (it’s published before 6 a.m. Eastern).
- Press your browser’s Print button. The menus and buttons drop away, leaving just the news, and each copy carries our web address.
- Or sign up with the activity office’s email and print it straight from your inbox at 6, 7 or 8 a.m.
What’s in each edition
- The bottom line: four sentences on what matters most this morning. They make a good opener for a news discussion group.
- The headline and first sentence of each story: the world, Washington, money, health and science, American life and sports, with the sources named.
- On today’s calendar: what to watch for today.
- One good thing: a warm story to end on, and a reliable conversation starter.
The news is written in calm, neutral language: what happened and what each side says, without outrage or hype. Every item is checked against at least two independent news reports. We cover national and world news, not local news, so it pairs well with your local paper.

Large print and full stories
A membership adds every story in full as a print-ready PDF, with a choice of type size up to true large print (18-point, single column, about five pages), plus weekend editions and sections you choose. Is it really free to print for residents?
Yes. The free edition may be printed and handed out at no charge, as described in our terms. Copies must stay unaltered and can’t be sold.
Is there an edition on weekends?
The free edition comes on weekdays. Members also get Saturday and Sunday editions.
